Targeting Christian Men and their Values

Here is food for thought for this Easter season.

The media has been increasingly amplifying anti-Christian sentiment recently. These articles disparage white Christian males as being the cause of anger and unrest in the world. As a Christian and the mother of a 24-year-old son, I am writing to express my concern and deep offense over this characterization of—to quote a recent letter-to-the-editor—"right-wing Christian young men and their supposed anger issues."

These sentiments often equate any expression of Christian faith with far-right extremism. I believe even moderate Democrats, including those who identify as Christian, would take issue with this kind of stereotyping. I have raised a kind, loving, and thoughtful young man who is surrounded by many like-minded young men. These strong, moral men are vital to our society, raised with the values to put God, family, and country first. They are also the first to step up and risk their lives to protect our country, communities, and neighborhoods.

Historically, men of faith are often drawn to public service, perhaps because the core teaching of Christianity emphasizes selflessness.
